Charles Patrick Edwards

March 10, 1954 - October 9, 2021

Charles Patrick Edwards, age 67, passed away unexpectedly of lung and heart failure on October 9, 2021, in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, where he resided.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Virginia Dunne Stark and William J. Edwards, and his daughter Tavyia Tarsetti. He is survived by his seven siblings, Tom (Audrey) Edwards, Kathryn Edwards, Barbara Edwards, Monica (Larry) Hatfield, William P. Edwards, Patricia Edwards, and Eileen (Gerd) Welke. Also, his daughter, Kathleen Smith, and his daughter Tavyia's son, Thomas Metichecchia, and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and several close friends.

Charlie was born and raised in Detroit. He was very close to his mother, Virginia, who instilled a passion for learning. Charlie loved to tell stories of his adventures and told believable fictional stories, such as his dog and the rabbit episode. He got us all with that one! He was very well read in many subjects, from philosophy, movies, law, poetry, and anything that made you think. He could recite many quotes and sayings from the famous to the less known from memory. He was articulate and had the "Dunne" love of words and would read the dictionary to find new words. His favorite word was "Zyzzyva" because it was the last word in his dictionary, and he wanted to have the last word. He wrote many journals over the years and kept copies of letters he wrote and received from family and friends.

Charlie made you laugh. He tried to be uplifting and heartfelt when talking to you or strangers, often helping people, whether close to him or not. Whenever they needed a hand, an ear, or even a loan, he tried to help and often gave some advice or words of wisdom to go with it. He loved to learn new things and enjoyed riding his motorcycle, kite flying, letter-boxing, and making jewelry from Petoskey stones. He had a great sense of humor and could be found watching people try to pick up a quarter that he had glued to the sidewalk. Children liked Charlie, and he made friends everywhere on his life path. He always made you feel special like you were his best friend.

We lost a special one in Charlie. He left a hole in the hearts of his family and friends. His ashes were joined with his mother Virginia's ashes and now rest at her parent's gravesite in Southfield, Michigan. There is a QR code on their stone to memorialize them and continue our family link.

Zyzzyva!

An Irish Blessing

May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again,
may God hold you in the palm of His hand.
